Beginner & Level 1
This level is geared toward the child who is beginning dance training. All dancers will take classical ballet and theatrical tap. Classes are carefully planned to introduce young children to the wonders of dance, self discipline, and how to use their bodies. Various styles of music, and dance vocabulary are used to keep the class interesting and their young minds active and learning.
This level is geared for the child who is beginning training with NSD&A. Dancers take classes in Classical Ballet and Theatrical Tap for 1.5 hours a week. We encourage stretching for dance, learning proper dance posture and discipline. The dance vocabulary will increase and physical demands will advance from learning to work on two legs, then balances and jumps on one leg. Dancers will use self control as they explore different challenging way
This level is geared toward the child who is excited about ballet training and wishes to come to class two days a week
Children will have either successfully completed levels 1, have met the requirements to start in this level, or have exceeded the age requirements of levels 1.
Ballet and Theatrical Tap. Classes are carefully planned to insure that each child feels confident and able to execute the movements with excitement and security.
Children will have either successfully completed levels 2, have met the requirements to start in this level, or have exceeded the age requirements of levels 2
Classical Ballet/ Theatrical Tap. This level is more comprehensive, in that it Emphases on artistic growth, grooming, discipline, and advancement of dance skills. Technical dance steps will enhance flexibility of the body, musicality of the movements, strong use of the core abdominal muscles.
Boys may begin classes in any class level. Younger boys will take ballet and theatrical tap.
This level is for the child who has successfully completed the previous levels of courses at NSD&A. Children will be introduced to more challenging technical steps and combinations. Abdominal strength, with emphasis on foot and ankle strength, flexibility and articulation.
Children will have either successfully completed levels 4, have met the requirements to start in this level, or have exceeded the age requirements of levels 3
Extended work on balances on two and one leg. Pétite and Grand allegro steps are perfected and children are constantly challenged with steps of ballon.
Concentration, at this level, is on sound ballet technique, all turning steps. Extended use of the adagio work. with èpaulement is refined.
Although many of these dancers are still novices, muscle strength and stamina building techniques are built into each class to help them progres.
Dancers are moving towards professional post secondary training and dance careers.
This level is designed for youth who have not had much previous dance experience.
Dancers will be carefully introduced to beginner steps and vocabulary at an accelerated pace, then more challenging technical steps and combinations. Abdominal strength, with emphasis on foot and ankle strength, flexibility and articulation. Extended work on balances on two and one leg. Petite and Grand allegro steps are perfected and dancers are challenged with steps of ballon.
This level is designed for youth who has successfully completed the previous levels of childrenʼs courses at NSD&A, or has had adequate previous training.
Dancers will be introduced to more challenging technical steps and combinations. Abdominal strength, with emphasis on foot and ankle strength, flexibility and articulation. Extended work on balances on two and one leg. Petite and Grand allegro steps are perfected and children are constantly challenged with steps of ballon.
Concentration at this level, is on sound ballet technique, continuing work on the petite and grand allegro steps, all turning steps. use of the adagio work. with épaulement is refined. Although many of these dancers are still novices, muscle strength and stamina building techniques are built into each class to help them progress. Careful exercises are given toward the Pointé work which uses balances on one and two legs. All of these demands assist with elegant body presentation on stage
This Level is geared toward youth ages 14-18, who has the interest for challenging technique and exposure. Concentration on strong ballet/Contemporary work. Guest Teachers and Choreographers also work with the class. Through the Soloist Project and Dance History, dancers have presented Classic Ballets, such as, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake excerpts, Blue Bird, Don Q, La Bayadere, Raymonda, Le Cosaire, Esmeralda, to name a few.
Dancers in this level also perform Community Service Projects which give them hourly credit for their schools. They perform for Senior Citizen Homes, and Assist with teaching younger children’s classes in the school. Additionally, they continue to build physical stamina, muscle, and strength. Refinement of posture, use of Èpaulement, and connecting steps both on flat and pointé. Mastery of all turning steps, and petite and grand allegro steps.
